I Don't Have A Laptop, but if I did...
I think I would try out this free open source program that is designed to track a stolen laptop. The program I'm writing about is called Adeona. From their web site:
" Adeona is the first Open Source system for tracking the location of your lost or stolen laptop that does not rely on a proprietary, central service. This means that you can install Adeona on your laptop and go — there's no need to rely on a single third party."
My son has a Apple laptop for college. When he moved into his dorm, we took out a relatively cheap insurance policy that covered listed item if lost or stolen. They also provided a "free" program similar to Adeona, but he could never get it to work and after several emails to support and web forum searches, he gave up. I have told him about this program. If he installs it and it works I will post his opinion.
